Hey all! Megan again with another vegan product review!
Amy’s Organic dishes were some of the first things I ever turned to upon deciding to become vegetarian. Needless to say, the grocery bills were rather expensive as I was blowing most of my cash on microwavable dinners. Today however, I buy mostly produce and get creative with food, but as I previously mentioned, sometimes, a quick meal is the only way to go.
I love just about everything Miss Amy does; her pizzas are no exception. The no cheese, roasted vegetable pizza is my favorite but when I recently found this one, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Most vegan “cheese” that I’ve tried has been really good so I wasn’t worried about Amy’s cheeze; it was the rice crust I was skeptical of.
My skepticism quickly turned to a renewed feeling of love for Amy as this little pizza is, simply put, delish. The rice crust adds an interesting flavor and the cheeze is quite good itself. The photo on the box makes the pizza look a lot “cheezier” that it actually is but I personally don’t mind. It’s still a great little dish.
Now, no, this probably isn’t something you could feed to a non-vegan and convince them that its great pizza like you can with Amy’s other pizzas (I used to buy Amy’s Spinach and Cheese pizzas for myself and an ex, non-vegetarian, boyfriend all the time), but I still thought I would share it with you all!
Since going vegan I hadn’t even looked in the ice cream section of my local grocery store. I had heard of soy- and rice-based versions, but they sounded phony and processed and I wasn’t feeling any huge lack of frozen treats, anyway.
Today, though, a small selection of vegan fare, right next to the weirdo low-carb concoctions in my grocer’s freezer, caught my eye. They were Purely Decadent brand, and they were made from coconut milk, one of the most wonderful liquids in our realm.
I bought the Mocha Almond Fudge flavor, though they all looked good.
Classy, n'est-ce pas?
Nutrition-wise, it’s not bad. I mean, it’s not good, but you could eat the entire thing and get less sugar than is in a 20 oz. Coke.
Just out of frame: one of the listed ingredients is "fudge sauce." This amuses me.
And I’m sure that there are people who do eat the entire thing in one sitting. It’s delicious enough, and in fact it tastes just like ice cream. The front of the container says “frozen dessert” instead of “ice cream,” but I’m guessing that’s to comply with regulations – no one would say this differs from ice cream in function. It scoops, melts, and feels just like the “real” thing.
It's almost creepy, like you've been tricked into eating dairy.
Anyway, a hearty recommendation to anyone looking for a rare rich treat. Or for showing nonvegans that plant-based versions can be just as good.
Hi there, I’m Megan! Nice to meet you all, friends! I love sharing foods and recipes, so here goes nothing!
When I became vegetarian three years ago, I not only felt better physically and mentally, I discovered a love of cooking that I never knew I had, a desire to be more adventurous when trying new foods, and, believe it or not, a love for buying groceries. It was only natural that the progression to eating a vegan diet increased these even more.
I get excited at the thought of shopping at Whole Foods and literally become giddy when I read ingredients on a new product and see that it’s vegan. Needless to say, I was thrilled to stumble upon this gem at the random market around the corner from my apartment.
I’m a college student, so sometimes a quick meal is the only option. My love of Thai food first drew me to Helen’s Kitchen products, as their Thai Yellow Curry is one of my favorite entrees, but the dish options that came to mind when I found Helen’s Meat Free Chik’n Steaks were endless.
Certified organic, vegan, and Gluten, MSG, and GMO free, these TofuSteaks are great in salads or in sandwiches but can also be used in everything from enchiladas to pasta.
Toss one in a skillet, lightly coated with olive oil, cook until its golden brown on both sides and heated throughout, then enjoy! I most often use them in spinach salads, complete with avocado, cucumber, tomatoes, carrots, and a couple of tablespoons of vegan ranch dressing. It’s a great, light salad, perfect for the summer or any season!

When I became vegan I knew there would be things, like marshmallows, that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy anymore because they aren’t vegan. Well, that’s not the case anymore. Sweet and Sara has a vegan marshmallow that tastes like the real thing. They also roast like the real thing. They are quite pricey but since I would only ever buy them as a treat I guess I can live with it. I’m so happy that Sweet and Sara and other companies are making cool vegan products like this.
Have you tried Sweet and Sara marshmallows? What did you think of them?
I’ve heard a lot about this new vegan cheese from Daiya and picked some up so I could test it out. The cheddar flavor is amazing, it melts like cheese should and tastes like cheddar. I’m not so crazy about the mozzarella flavor though. I just don’t think it tastes as good as other vegan mozzarella’s that I’ve tried.
If you’ve tried Daiya cheese I would love to hear your thoughts.
